Audio, Electrical, and Interior questions for doors

Just got my Astro, and the drivers side window goes down, but then has to sit awhile before it'll go back up.
The PO said it worked fine before his daughter was playing with it.
From what I've seen on here, it's typically a window motor issue, could it be the switch?

I've already more or less figured on replacing the motor, and as well might as well upgrade the speakers while I have the panel off.
Looks like I can fit 6.5's, are the aftermarkets a direct fit with holes aligning up?
Also, can component speakers easily be installed to replace tweeters at the same time?

Anything else I should look at while I have the door panels off?
Lock solenoids, window tracks or other lubricating?

Did the 97's come with any kind of key fob/remote entry?
Mine didn't, just a single key, just wondering if this was standard or optional if available at all.

It's the thermal cutoff switch in the motor. There's a how-to on here to fix it permanently. I'm too lazy and just replace the window motor.

Yep, plenty of speakers. Go to Crutchfield and they'll tell you what fits and what doesn't.

Off the top of my head, the RPO codes for RKE is AU0 and AU3, or it was on my '99. I bought that one and the '02 without fobs, though both had the module. So I bought fobs cheap on eBay and programmed them.

Lube everything,door latch,handle,lock and all linkage,even the pivot points and where they slide in the little plastic things.And everything on the window regulator,and the glass run strips the glass rides in.Unless your van is a base model,it probably is set up for wireless entry,just need key fob and programming.

At $30 a pop for new motors, I'd rather just out with the old and in with the new!

How can I determine if I have the module? It is a conversion van so I'd be a little surprised if it didn't.

Is WD-40 white lithium good to use on the doors?

you can do the first step of the programming which is: holding the unlock button several seconds and if it responds properly, you do.
Look it up cuz I'm going by memory.

The lithium is good for most stuff,silicone for the glass runs.Your codes,on the passenger door and in the glove box,will tell you if you have keyless,also if you have factory security system, which is what the 4th button is for.The 3rd button is if you have dutch doors.

Ha, thanks, I was a bit clueless to this in your earlier post.
I'm going to get my RPO now and see what I can learn.

Edit: Looks like I don't. I found an RPO code listing here, and mine only has: AU3 Lock Control: Side Door, Electric

Well if you at least have electric locks, you can always install an alarm system that can control them.

Viper has a couple models that have 2 way communication remotes that can open close doors and kill ignitions

I was going to run down to a pick a part tomorrow anyway for a temp and fan knob, was thinking I'd look for the module too.
I'm not 100% on it's location, seems it could be behind the radio or under the dash...

Most, if not all, bets are off when working with a 'delivered bald' van to the aftermarket builder. As I thought, there is an RPO code for Conversions. And what they do is not going to show up on the van's door ( or glove box ) list.


I used that lithium grease w/ the easy hard tip, as well as axle/gear gen'l. use grease and light spindle oil for the lock.
I hear door lock "stuff" works well. And I used spray CRC silicon in the old side tracks.

Yeah, I'm no conversion vanologist, but I'd kinda expect it to come with things above base such as remote entry.
Oh well, honestly I'm not too concerned about it right now, I'll check it out when I do the radio.

Yeah, if you're feeling frisky - why not - they're cheap. Time, patience and a good hole saw are recommended.
And some of the new handles have that inward tilt - like the one I just finished.

So just to circle back around on the remote entry, it looks like for my 97 you need a jumper on pins 4 & 8 of the diagnostic port and doors should lock if I have it.
