The inside of a fuel pump

I was curious about what exactly went wrong with my fuel pump and decided to cut the case off and find out. There really isn't much that can go wrong except the windings in the motor. I put an ohm meter on the windings and found them opened. I've been having problems with starting for 6 months or so when the engine was warm and finally the fuel pump died rather suddenly. This pump is 3 years old but only has about 20,000 miles on it.

Looks brand new, to me that suggests that was the problem. It is the dirty grimmy parts that are always good
