How was the Astro named?

Why did they call the Astro, the Astro? Was it during the space age or something? Or was it because during the 90s it was advanced in technology? :confused:

Chevy had a concept car in 1967 called the Astro 1.Maybe they just used that name,I don't know.

my guess would be the popularity of the space shuttle at the time...look at the Aerostar, put a tailfin and some vector thruster pods on top and it's damn near a ground shuttle. Why Safari was chosen for the GMC conterpart, I have no guess.
A temporary fix usually becomes a permanent solution, therefore it does not exist.

Yeah.. I remember when they featured the Astro on Motorweek. They were test driving the actual prototype. I remember thinking how "spacey" and futuristic it looked... and how weird and out of place it would look in traffic. :D

I miss my 87. Throttle body injection! Seems more reliable than the CPI. I dread the day I start having issues with it on my 2000.

The 2000 doesn't have CPI; it has CSFI. Central Sequential Fuel Injection. Instead of batch-firing, it fires sequentially, only the cylinders that need fuel. The FPR was redesigned and is much more robust. It's also a lot easier to work on with a redesigned plenum.

Thats good to hear. Working with the 93 was pretty hard. Its good to see GM made it easier. I haven't seen a newer Astro upclose sense I was like 10 or younger.... :?
