Well, my husband apparently caught my mood when he complained a bit about both the van and the Jeep not being driveable (both situations are his fault, of course), so he put the rear rotors and pads on the Jeep this evening while I worked late.

I think we found the source of the grinding; what do you think?

The brakes are fixed, despite my husband replacing the rear pads and rotors without adult supervision

Must be careful when applying them now, as pushing hard will leave a seat belt bruise on your ribcage...the nice thing is, the front no longer wobbles hard when braking since the rotors are no longer warped.

Now that the Jeep's driveable again, it's time to get everything ready to replace the fuel pump on the van. I have a full pump/sender assembly, a new wiring harness and a new lock ring.

Sad, but all too true.

It wasn't quite fixed, by the way. I had to run down to the LAPS (I do love my little Tercel with 193,850 miles on it) to pick up 2 rear calipers tonight. The pistons wouldn't retract after applying the brakes unless I hit a bump - or ten. Rear rotors were 300° while the fronts were 105°. Of course, he didn't believe me and drove it on 4 mile round trip because he was positive I was wrong. I initially suspected the brake hoses, but cracking open the bleeders did not result in a spurt of fluid so the hoses were working properly. Jiggling the hell out of the rotors did make the pistons retract, so I combined a trip to pick up my daughter from work with picking up calipers. Replacing both sides took less than an hour total.

And now I have to trust he'll be nice to it because he's taking it over to his cousin's hunting lodge tomorrow to teach an HQL (handgun qualification license - recent MD BS required before you can purchase a gun) course to cousins and friends, which is about an hour and a half each way. We did test with stomping on the brakes and wiggling the calipers to see if everything retracted as it should, and both sides are now perfect.

After selling my 2003 Astro, I bought a yukon xl, then a suburban, then downsized to a commuter, 04 Pontiac POS.

So I bought a Mazda 6.

Long read alert.
As I do the work on all my vehicles/equipment, am in a continuing fight to keep the Venture working for the other half. Recently did both axles, hubs and rotors/brake pads on it. Changed the seals for the axles and had to add a quart of atf after the install to get the level right. Seemed to work fine but about 2 weeks later was having hard bang type shifting in the gears in the trans. Some searching showed codes to look for, nothing showed for a problem with the pressure control solenoid. Could shut it off and remove the key and it would reset itself then start hard shifting again. Further research had people talking about a dirty MAF sending info to the computer causing similar problems. Pulled it out and apart and after cleaning, now working correctly. Do have a filter and fluid change lined up next. Oh the joy of working on something way more complicated than an Astro/Safari. You don't want to know what I would like to do to some of the GM engineers sometimes.

Well, I had a dash cam in the Sebring, but I wanted a rear cam too. Picked one up and installed it.

Installed a 128GB SD card in it. Had to get an extension for the rear cable as it was a few feet short. It's a 1080p camera with night vision. Kinda cool.

Bought this today. Was eyeing the 6.2 Sierra Denali AWD but decided against spending the big bucks.
Got this Toyota for a fraction. Won't be as fun but I can scratch this and shrug it off!

Changed the TDI wagon oil, just rolled 90k. After all the ACDelco talk on this forum I went with their oil filter. Found it on rockauto for $5. Typically run OEM filter, always used liqui moly oil.

Finished doing rear brakes on my 92 Geo Prizm (a Corolla clone, assembled in the USA) today. Was hearing some noise in the right rear, so I opened it up for a look. The brake shoe pad had come off the shoe, and was tumbling around inside it, and knocked the rubber cup piece off the wheel cylinder. Replaced the brake shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware kit, and drums. While I was in there, I replaced the rear hubs, so it's now all basically new, including the short steel lines.Got the parts thru Rock Auto, and used AC Delco parts wherever I could. The rear hub assemblies came from Amazon, as they were a quarter of the price Rock wanted for them. In rotating the right hub, you could feel the square bearing in it. No telling how long it's been like that though. It was due for all of that, since I never really did anything in the rear of that car (brakes or anything drive related) over the 10 years I've had it. I had already done the front end of it a couple of years ago...calipers, rotors, hub bearings, struts, tie rod ends, lower ball joints, new hoses and lines.

I've mostly been welding steel into it, to slow the rust. We mostly keep it around as a back up car, but I do occasionally drive it, mainly to keep the battery charged. Well that, and to use as a tractor when moving stuff around the yard.

Rear brakes on the 2012 Acura RDX turbo. Sun was shining and the driveway was pretty dry. Wasn't too bad. Definitely going to pressure wash and fluid film the underside. Probably going to trade this thing over the summer. Fun car but we need a bit more interior space.
