Height of rear door opening

Postby Choptop [OP] » April 27th 2013, 1:30am

Howdy all... quick question...

what is the height of the opening in the rear of an Astro/Safari? I want to see if my motorcycle will fit in there.

I not sure of the exact measurement. But I used to haul 2 dirt bikes in mine. Another member hauls a racing street bike to the races with his.
It is tight and takes a little finess but once the handle bars in your fine.

I take off the mirrors and the windshield on my mostly stock street bike (Yamaha Maxim). It's right around 4', it's about 5" more than the opening on a 2000 Caravan...

Speaking of which, I need to go get it out of winter storage.

I did get a full touring bike in, but that I had to also remove the handlebars and rear trunk. The front wheel was almost touching the doghouse.

Yupe.. most middle weight motorcycles fit right inside the Astro/Safari.
My son and I pop our 500 cc Kawi's in there, but you can see that my son's bike doesn't have a proper windscreen.
Our bikes have 56 inch wheel base which is not too long.
Dirt bikes usually fit inside.. and two can stand side by side.

Keep in mind that if your van has rear-air conditioning, you'll lose a couple of inches.

Entry isn't any lower than door frame so not losing any height when loading with rear a/c.

which begs the next question... if you put the front wheel between the front seats what is the length of the load floor in the back?

If you look at mine, the front wheel is just starting to intrude into the space between the front seats. But mine is a shorty, so I have 10" less than an EXT van. I never actually measured it, but this should give you an idea about length.
