Front End Swap

Postby tedanderson [OP] » July 15th 2009, 10:49pm

I'm sure this has probably been discussed on here before but I am not able to find it by searching the threads. If someone can give me a link to the proper thread, I would appreciate it.

Anyhow, I recently acquired a 92 Safari cargo model with 200K miles (8th VIN digit is a Z) and I was wondering if it was possible to transfer the front end of the body from a newer model to the older model. Is it possible to just bolt on the fenders, hood, grille, headlights and bumper or is there more involved in the process? My van is in excellent condition (both body and powertrain) but I was looking to give it an updated look and I was wondering how difficult this was.

EDIT: Moderator, please forgive me for not positing in the appropriate category. I am still finding my way around here. :)

Hi tedanderson

No problems with the section your posting in tedanderson, we do understand the learning curve here.:)

It is possible and it has been done a few times with mention of it on the old board forum. It isn't as easy as just bolting a couple things on it as their has been a big design change from 95 and up in regards to fenders and front ends.

Having said that, it's not impossible either, you will need to do some fabricating to get them to fit, but they do fit. Head over to the old Icon board and enter your search criteria their, IE: Front End Swap, Front End Conversion, New Style Conversion.

If you have anymore questions after that, please feel free to ask and i or someone here will help you.:)

From what I gather from what was posted on the old forum, is that you do need the rad support to do the conversion. Their were just to many 'subtle" changes to that area when they went with the new style front ends with these vans.

roll pan on a Supra? Interesting, any pictures of it CAZTRO? Thanks.:)

Hi CAZTRO

Yes their was, but I believe that was to convert over to the Escalade front end. Let me have a look later on when I get some time, and will get back to you and let you know what I find. Thanks.:)

Here is the thread I was referring to with the radiator support:

Here are some Escalade info if you want to have a look:

Please keep in mind that site has suffered many crashes in the past and many of the pictures once posted, no longer exist.

Hope this helps.:)
