i dont have a working gas gauge. i get 300 a tank and then start to worry about running out. winter is about 330 miles a tank and summer is 310 a tank. i think its a 21 gal tank

Grumpy I get around 20-21 mpg, Green I get 22-24 mpg. That's with two benches in the back, tools, bikes, other crap I really don't need to carry everywhere.

Gas mileage is pretty variant on these vans, with having a pretty wide selection of rear ratios available, numerous management systems, and such. My '99 can get 20 mpg if I'm cruising 60-ish in nice weather with the a/c off... when it's 110 out, and I'm running the highway loaded at 80 mph, it's closer to 14.5 mpg. It's got 3.73's. My '95........if I can keep it going long enough to go through a full tank.... lol, I'll post it , it's got 3.42's:mrgreen:

Re: gas mileage

Postby xequar » August 6th 2009, 8:44pm

With my '92 XT, standard "Z" engine, not sure which rear-end I have...

Driving around suburban Detroit-18ish
Highway driving (a lot of 55-65 with some 75 mph freeway)-21
Freeway at 75-80 from Detroit to Chicago-20ish

And $uperJoe, don't worry that you don't have a working gas gauge. It's not like the gas gauges in these vans are anything like accurate anyways... In mine, the needle doesn't move from past Full for almost 150 miles, and 1/2 is actually just below the 3/4 tick. Empty is actually Empty.

Yeah, that needs to be fixed. You might as well attach a bucket to the tailpipe to catch the fuel.

Anyways, on my trip to Idaho I averaged 14 mpg. Luckily, I wasn't paying for the gas. It came up to over $800 in gas. And still, that's cheaper than the rental for a U-haul.

And 29 is awesome, but remember, my "van" is about 1000lbs lighter than yours!

Thanks for the response gt, yeh, the 3.42s are good for gas mileage in the upper MPH range, mine only gets about 24-26 now as apposed to 28-30 mpg (imperial) from before when I had the smaller Arctic Alpins and 3.42s in it.:)
