I'm at a total loss for words....

Postby kennysmoke [OP] » May 23rd 2014, 2:47am

I just got word from my stepson back in NH (who I raised as my own for the 17 years I was with my ex) that one of my very good friends shot and killed himself today... Leo was my mechanic for many years... he worked for another friend of mine at his shade tree garage where all the boys would hang after work for a few beers and whatnot.... truly one of the nicest people you could ever meet... Every time I travel home from WNY (11 hour drive) the garage was always one of my first stops and Leo always had a big bear hug for me and a smile... he will be missed... RIP my brother!

Unfortunately, not everything makes sense.

Having said that, three of six brothers, sounds like depression runs in the family. It is treatable, but you have to seek treatment. Why does an illness, an illness like scarlet or rheumatic fever, have so much of a stigma attached that people won't even talk about it?

Agreed, words are insufficient at times like this. Unfortunately, this is what happens when someone's personal burdens outweigh their coping mechanisms.

I'm sorry to read of your loss(es).

Very sorry to hear of the loss of your buddy. Nobody can ever understand someone's reasons for doing such a thing. It really blows for everyone who loved him, but on the other hand he got to check out on his own terms and that I am envious of. I always find some comfort in the fact that we don't know **** about what's really going on in this world or those others that may exist but we cannot comprehend. I see death as a release from constraints. Hey I'm F'n weird but I don't think death is the end of the mind or the soul. I plan on seeing everyone I've lost again someday. I definitely can't wait to see my best childhood buddy, my dog. I'd hope that if I did the same thing that my friends and family would understand that I was ready to move on. I'm serious. Most people don't like my take on death. For me it's like religion. I'm not religious at all but I certainly would like to believe there something after this **** experiment called life on earth. I'm hoping it's a passport to explore the universe uninhibited.

I can only hope those who cared about him can cope with the loss.

Thanks again for all the replies... I got another hit from reality this morning when I was checking out the online version of my hometown of Berlin NH's local paper and read Leo's obit, there was a nice write up an picture of him with his ever present grin... I wish I could afford to take the time off to travel home for the funeral, but money is too tight... It's times like these it sucks to live so far from home...
