Price range expectations?

Postby Mr_Bowtie [OP] » January 16th 2010, 5:37pm

I want to buy a newer Van(96+) in about a month. I have a price range of $3000-$3500 probably. I have searched Craigslist and its hard to find anything that really stands out in this price range.

My pipe dream is a newer 7-8 Passenger AWD Astro/Safari that is clean & has less then 120K miles for our growing family of soon to be 6 people. I thought I could pull it off, but I think cash for clunkers stole that dream from me.

So, turning to you guys/gals for some advice on what I should realistically be expecting in that price range. I was also thinking I may have to settle for a 2wd Van if I want lower miles compared to the AWD Vans I have seen for $3K with upwards of 150K miles. Then all I'm paying for is a cleaner, newer, and updated Van...but something that will probably be just a realiable as what I have. Total confusion on what to do here.........

Any advice is appreciated!

(Plan on keeping both my current Vans too as they aren't worth selling for the money I could get out of them.)

As an example, I just picked up this '04 2wd w/109K on it for $3900.00.
It runs great and after giving it a full tune-up and fixing the vacuum lines it is good to go another 100K.

^I would be all over that! Thats a great price for such a new Van. I want AWD, but its not a must have. I really only need it like 10 times a year. Plus a 2wd would probably be less to maintain over the years.

If there's a clunker dealer selling cars turned in under the cash for clunkers program, they are breaking the law. Cash for clunker vehicles have to have the engine permanently disabled and I believe the title can NOT be re-sold for road use.

I actually found a couple locally that have lower miles....under 120K miles....for right around $3300. Both I saw are AWD. Hopefully when I'm plan on looking in about a month there is something like that out there. Options don't matter too much....DVD would be awesome for the kids though! Well see.....
