Safari Newbie: 2005 Safari w/AWD?

Postby Splat [OP] » May 10th 2015, 2:32pm

Hey guys. My GMC G3500 is ready to retire on me and I'm thinking of going with a Safari or Astro. So I humbly come here looking for help and info before I buy. I've seen a few GMC Safaris lately and only know what I've been reading here. I'm new to the Astro/Safari line so is there anything in particular I should look/listen/feel for or are there any known issues? Thank you very much.

If you test drive and like it, all feels good, buy it. There is no mystery, maintenance is key w/ any car. Take it home flush and fill everything unless the PO gives you paperwork saying it was just done and w/ what fluids. The transfer case and front diff are picky from what I read. I have 2WD so I'm no help there.
Good Luck in your quest!

I have seen a number of 04/05 astro/safaris (they are the same) on the east coast for cheap. I have an east coast van and everything is crusty rusty. Of course, you living out there...probably used to it. Look for rest around the front body mounts, or any body mounts. One member found a bad rust situation around the body mounts.

If it shifts weird, at all, I would walk unless the seller will concede. Clunks? jerks? Noises? The only thing I would not worry about is the ABS light. Does it steer straight? Does it have records? Avoid dealers like the plague.
How many sensors, fuses or computers does a Bw4472 need? Zero.
