Bosch O2 Sensors

Postby mngcornaglia [OP] » June 17th 2010, 10:33pm

I installed new bosch sensors as part of a tune-up at 68K miles. since i've got OBDII codes for "O2 Heater Resistance". Called Bosch tech support. On 3rd call, tech finally admitted to known problems with GM 4.3 Vans only. On cold start, system checks resistance of O2 heaters. My computer wants 3.6 ohms cold, the bosch units were 8.3 (left) and 10.1 (both on right side) ohms. Bosch is working a fix, but doubt it will come in my lifetime on an out-of-production vehicle.
Bosch Tech recommended use of OEM or another brand O2. Chevy wants $200 each. Sparkplug.com had Densos on sale for $57 each. They are in the mail. If they aren't 3.6 ohms or something that works, the other option is NGK.
I read others have had a similar problem, so i wanted to save anyone else some of the same headaches.

Thanks for the information. It's one I'd have missed, I usually only buy Bosh O2 Sensors.

Hmm  .that explains a lot, especially the constant HO2 sensor codes I get, and have been getting for years. ( I have Bosch sensors) Now I'll have to see if adding a few ohms of resistance helps out :D

Were there codes present prior to the replacement? I don't think O2 sensors are part of a tune-up on a OBDII van with 68K.
The price of paying attention is cheap considering the alternative.

Hi mngcornaglia

Hmm, odd. I run Bosch in my van and have never had a problem (11 years now). Maybe GM added tighter O2 parameters in the later models.

That's very good information to know mngcornaglia thanks.:)

CORRECTION: the system wants 3.6 ohms (not 13 previously stated). this problem has been making me nuts for over a month - checking connections, fuses, grounds, talking to the Bosch techs who said, "we make millions of sensors, must be your car". Finally talked to one (Adam) who was honest. Bosch tech line: 888-715-3616.

rev_les, there's a correction on those ohms. should have 3.6 not the 13 previously stated....
