1991 real 4X4?

I am looking at a 1991 Chevy Astro 4x4 van. My question is this real 4x4. I live on the outer Banks in NC and we drive on the beach daily. I need it to be real 4x4 as sometimes the sand is deep. I plan to lift it and put bigger tires on but I need to know about the 4x4 system. the owner says its real time 4x4. 6 cyl. gas engine. 3.4 V6. please answer with any feedback.

Only if he swapped out the AWD transfer case for a 4x4 transfer case and added the controls, either pushbutton or stick shift, to select 2WD, 4Hi or 4Low.

They are either RWD or AWD from the factory.

Also, no '91 Astro came from the factory with a 3.4 V6. It came with a 4.3 V6.

You need to go and look for yourself and make sure it really is 4x4...we can't answer that for you on this one. Sorry.

Never tried the AWD in sand before, but its AWESOME in the snow.

If it's a Quigley http://www.quigley4x4.com/ conversion, then it's true 4x4. From what I understand, they built some Astros.
