On October 28th 2015 at approximately 6:45pm the New Westminster Police Department responded to the 1000 block of 4th Avenue to assist the New Westminster Fire Department with a vehicle fire. After the fire was extinguished, one deceased person was located in the vehicle.
The NWPD Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit have conducted an extensive investigation in collaboration with the New Westminster Fire Department and the BC Coroner Service. After close examination of the evidence, the identity of the deceased adult male has been confirmed, and foul play has been ruled out.
"We have notified the family and offered a number of support services, such as our Victim Assistance Unit," stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. "We are not in a position to comment any further, but foul play is not a factor." http://www.nwpolice.org/media-releases/ ... icle-fire/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
While they didn't say what caused the fire, please be safe if you are going to sleep in your van.
I wish they would have more details, they said something along the lines that he had tools in there in another article. So there is a possibility that he had other supplies as well. Or it could have been something close to a space heater, all speculation unless they release more info or someone calls and finds out.
I was talking to a guy ~3 days ago at the gas station about mods that he was doing to his van. He had some shady electrical stuff that I pointed out to him(16awg direct to the battery ). Then I mentioned this thread in another thread today, so I went looking to see if they had any updated information. I didn't find any updated information but I did find a picture of the other side of the van, so I figured I would add it
What some people don't know can hurt them for sure. Takes me back to when my brother
and I burnt his work truck to the ground due to a gas powered air compressor in the rear of
the truck catching on fire. It happened while we were winterizing the plumbing system in one
of our customers' houses. We had no fire suppression equipment in either of our trucks, and
could only call for help and stand and watch the parade go by. Let me me tell you that hind-
sight is 20/20.
