New member - looking at one of three AWD Astro's

Postby S_Ian_Howard [OP] » November 26th 2010, 1:55pm

Hi Guys,

Can anyone share significant differences between the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Astro's. Each shows very well and seems trouble free, and are the same basic package. I know that these years are basically the same van but has there been real time experience out there that says one performs or has troubles more than another.

Negotiating today on them today so any steering to or from would be really appreciated.
thanks

Ball Joint Problems
More than 40,000 2003 Chevy Astro vans have faulty steering knuckles that could cut into the lower ball joint rubber boot, which keeps the joint clean and lubricated. Cutting the boot can lead to road dirt and water contaminating the ball socket area and result in early wear of the joint. The steering knuckles should be replaced, according to Motor Trend.
It was not stated if this was changed in later years, I have heard it commented that front end parts on theses vans are a weak area and should be changed out and replaced with Moog Problem Solver front end components

defective fuel filters-leaking problems,,,the report referred to Fram , ..so buy Ac Delco or better
Inspect the brake \hydraulic hoses ,anti-lock braking for rubbing and chafing ,,
this is just things I have read , Owners of those years may speak up on other matters , as with many cars ,when they get more than 100,000 miles on them they start to need parts replaced .
How well a vehicle is maintained , routinely is key to a long lasting vehicle
