2005 Astro awd trans interchange?

2005 Astro awd trans interchange?

Postby offroad safari [OP] » May 23rd 2020, 3:39am

I’m pretty knowledgeable with a 90 to 94 all-wheel-drive systems, but I don’t know much about the second GEN newer vans.

A friend of mine has a 2005 awd Astro, the trans is shot. He also has a 98 awd with a bad engine, but a good trans. I can’t find any solid answer after hours of searching, could I use the 98 trans and 2005? Some pages say 2005 is 2005 only, others say 98-05.

Are the electronics the same between the two? Would anything have to be changed like tail housing to the transfer case? Will the torque converter work? I’ve read some places that the bolt circle of the torque converter went from 10 inches to 11 inches on other vehicles due to the LS engines?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Automatic Forum
AutomaticThe purpose of an Automatic Transmission is similar to that of a manual transmission, the auto tranny's primary duty is to allow the engine to operate in its narrow range of speeds while providing a wide range of output speeds.
