I've used baby powder to trace a similar leak from under the dash/cowl panel on our old Villager. I could never nail down the exact spot though. It was recommended to me to remove the panel from around the wipers, and spray undercoating around the general area. It worked, and stayed dry until the van was totaled.

Nice work tracking it down!

Girlfriend called from a mountain 6h north from home asking if I love her. Than she send me a picture of our Astro. She hit a rock going to a remote camp site. Went to her, patched hole with JB Weld to get the van of the mountain, was just a mile or so. Than trailers it home for repair. All in all a 22h trip.

That is a BUMMER!
Bright side: It could have happened a lot farther away, or completely smashed the pan.

It’s never good when they call and say, “I’m okay, but....” or ask if you love them. That does not bode well for what comes next.

At least she was smart and shut it down and called. Many would have continued to drive until the engine seized. Kinda like what my daughter did Friday night (about to post it in the other vehicles thread).

We took ours on a bunch of errands; up to freight by the bay for a cheap pump and hose, plus a few other little odds and ends, then to Lowe’s for a few fittings, then to our nephew’s house to pick up our power washer they’d borrowed, then home by 12:30. And we’ve been hiding inside since - the weather station says 100° and 42% humidity. It’s even miserable in the shade.

That's impressive. You could love her just for that.

This last weekend, well, extended weekend, took it camping. Brought both vans so we could bring the kayaks and the canoe. Other than one afternoon of rain, it was a good time. Lots of hiking, beach time, water time, some biking by the girls, a few trips for meals and activities in the Dells, campfires, grilling, s'mores and downtime with the family. Memories.

Oh, forgot to mention, I replaced the power steering pump before we left, it was leaking like a sieve. Now no leaks, so happy. Didn't realize that technically there are 2 reservoirs on our vans, the remote one and the one on the back of the pump. Interesting.

Sorry, no pics, as I was rushing to get the job done and had a ton of other things to do to get ready to leave.

It's weird not having to constantly refill the fluid when it starts groaning. Just need to replace the engine now.

New engine mounts are in and transmission got new fluid and filter. Still having a clunk when coming to a stop, so tomorrow I'll be trying to determine if it's driveline, axle wrap, or something else. It's so much quieter at a stoplight though :)
