11 inch drum questions

You should be able to use the posi unit but its most likely a very high gear ratio. The car I took the brake parts from had a 3:23 posi whereas my Astro came with 3:42. that higher gear ratio will affect both mileage and take off.

Yes I did on one side its hard to do as it goes in from the other side of the backing plate so I made a bracket. If you need pictures Let me know I will have to go out and take some for you.Mark

Yes. I don't recall making any special bracket, just welded a pinch over the new bracket tab to keep the cable captive as seen in the photo.

I'm rebuilding the rear I had in my "97 and the e cables were chewy so I just ordered new.
I got the brake parts from you, new gen 2 new standard duty steel springs and the mounting hardware I got from Will a while back.
It looks like my '97 died in time to save this rear, the planetary gears in the center were just starting to eat themselves but the ring gear looks almost new.
It's all coming together now so any detail pics are helpful.

i don't know if they'll help but here's some pics of the 11" brakes as removed from a 96 JY Caprice. i can't get any good pics of the e-brake cable attachment without taking it all apart, which i haven't done yet.

much better braking then the 9" stuff that was stock, I am soon going to take my fronts apart to repack the bearings since it has been sitting for so long. While its apart I am redoing the fronts with all new parts i have been collecting over a long time. Since the van is basically road ready I will tackle this as the weather cools down.
Doing stuff on the ground hurts my back so I will do one side then do the other the next day. Thanks for the pictures Stent!

I did take out one wheel cylinder to figure out what replacement to get, as i discovered there are different fluid line outlet angles & bore diameters.
the cylinder i took out has 3/8-24 NF line fitting threads.
the bore is 1".
the AC-Delco replacement number is 18E57.
the GM part number is 19175552.

Just gotta say, FROM EXPERIENCE those brakes are only as good as that tiny little pin at the top where all the springs attach. Take a nice long look at that pin. When it shears, AND IT DOES, those big powerful shoes spin with the drum. Consider drilling it out and replacing with a larger diameter high tensile/shear strength steel bolt. Welding reinforcement to the backside of the backing plate is also a swell idea.

hi WoodButcher,
"R" right side is the passenger side & yes the e-brake comes in from the back :

here's the passenger side 11" brake still on the caprice at the JY :
1%20-%201.jpg

the only other new parts for this brake upgrade i've bought as of now are the rear axle seals & outer bearings as referenced to my 1999 2WD cargo van.
when i pull the axles out i figured "i may as well" change the bearings. i'll keep adding the part's & pieces to markmitch's brake thread here as i get them.

AC-Delco axle seal #291-301.

CC put up good color pics of his new driver's side but when I got to the passengers I had to figure it out.
The adjuster arm is toward the rear and the e-brake is on the front side as it comes in from the rear.
The driver's side e-brake arm is behind the adjuster arm.
