Quality time meaning replacing or repairing stuff, it seems never ending sometimes...

I pulled the Evaporator and heater core today, the evap. doesn't look bad but I'm right there with everything out of the way so why not.

The heater core looks fine so it'll get a good flush and go back in, it's so easy to remove I'm not too concerned about it.

I did order new rims and tires today, I'm super stoked, hoping to have pictures this weekend

I kept going on un-f#@k-ing the new (to me) 04. Waiting on some parts for the brake lines and ABS pump so while its on jack stands I figured I delve into the grlle (have a better one with no cracks) and check out the radiator support/body mounts front crossover brake line etc,
found some rust around the pass side body mount in the rad support..the usual spot pass side worse than driver as usual

Made up a patch and spotted it in after cleaning out all the rust and hitting the remainder with rust converting primer

Rusty Core Support, It's a dirty job but we all must do it someday...mine is rusted out along the bottom in back I found it when I pulled the radiator out, it's not structural or visible from the outside so I'll replace the entire support when I find a rust free replacement

Yeah like I said the usual spots seems like every Astro/Safari had the issue there to one degree or another the passenger side due to the coolant bottle/radiator fill neck (dex-cool spillage) and the drivers sides Ive seen pristene to mildly rotted around the weld joints --probably flex. Although this one appears to have taken a mild hit all the grille mounts on that side and top corner of the grille were broken. Mild dent around the screw hole you can see in the broken paint each side of the screw hole.
Another thing I noticed is there may be a bad motor mount --the oil pan is setting right down on the diff extension. I thought it felt like engine movement when reved..one more thing for the list.

Re: What have you done to/with your van today?

Finally got my van registered in CT. Been driving around with a PA temp that expired Sept 4. My fine state :icon-rolleyes: is still requiring appointments, so I needed to wait almost 3 weeks for the next available one.

Went in pretty confident I had all my ducks in row. but ended up blindsided by them telling me I was missing a title reassignment. I wasn't. Van was traded into a dealership. Dealership sent van to auction where it was bought by the small dealer I bought it from. Had 3 clueless DMV huddle for about 5 minutes and collaborate that I was indeed missing information. I still wasn't. You'd have thought I was trying register a school bus, instead of a 15 yo van. Tried to defend my position by stating that the fact PA had issued a temp reg. listing me as the owner, that they obviously had no issues with the title. Nope..go away and get fictional missing info. :naughty:

Went home and perused the web and found certain private dealers in the state provide new registrations. found one that didn't require an appointment about 40 miles away. Called said dealer explained my dilemma. "Come on down. we'll take care of you" ..for a 25 fee. About 1/2 hr after arriving I was on my way with my new plates. did I mention what a fine state I live in?

Having spent more than my fair share of time in both CT DMV and MD MVA, I’d rather go to CT. Every time.

Covid means all bets are off, though. MD still requires appointments, too.

I pity for you if that's the case...If you were trying to make me feel better..it didn't work. Our town hall still is appointment only too. Not looking to argue the whole Covid thing, but will only say, I find it odd in times of "crisis" you'd think that's when government/government agencies would step up and find better ways to continue to serve the public. Instead we have to look to grocery store workers as those who IMO have gone above and beyond.

I always wondered how much tire I could stuff under my Astro without a lift on oem wheels, so I had a cheap used set (5000miles) of 235/70-16 all-season tires mounted on oem wheels. Stock suspension, no lift, no tweaking of the torsion bars. The rear tire clearance was a non-issue. The front tire clearance, lock-to-lock and full compression was a non-issue as well. I believe this tire size is the largest I can use on my '05 AWD on oem wheels without a lift. All-terrain tires of the same size (maybe Toyo Open Country A/T III) will go on next and since this is my daily driver that sees off road on occasion when I go dispersed camping, it is all I need for now.

That does, however, all depend upon to which DMV we are referring. Enfield sucked, though that is where I took my driver's test because no other location had a slot in the 6 months after my birthday. Winsted was great, mostly because it's a smaller, more rural location. I got an inspection done and tags issued there when I bought a car down here when I was in college. My roommate and I drove it up for a 3-day weekend to get that done on a Saturday.

Today, I drove mine for work. My pressman and I went down to Southern MD to pick up an almost-new inket addressing machine (postcards, envelopes, letters, etc...) from a college. My boss saved over $15,000 by buying it from them on govdeals.com

Winsted? I'm surprised they even have paved roads and automobiles up there, let alone a DMV...
