98 AWD transfer questions

OK so this 98 is suppose to be a np4472 transfer and even says so on the tag but it has autotrac2 fluid coming out of it? Anyone seen this before? It says in my manual it is suppose to have transmission fluid in it?

Yep, definitely seen people use the wrong fluid before.

OK so someone put the wrong fluid in it then. I hope I won't have to use this transfer but we shall see. I want to go with a 4x4 transfer but it seems they are kinda scare right now here in norcal. I am waiting for the pick n pull to do a 50% off sale to go and try to locate one. Is there any way to tell if its good inside without pulling it apart. Thanks for the info guys!

AutoTrak 2 won't damage a 4472, but I wouldn't put it back in. Dexron is what you want.

If it came out still looking blue with no black or swirly metal in it, you're probably fine.

AutoTrak 2 is basically just full synthetic auto trans fluid with a bit more clutch additives in it. It is a bit thinner,but has better lubricating properties.It is actually a good choice for any T/C that uses ATF,and is approved to be used in other manufacturers automatic transfer cases.There are at least 3 other manufacturers that make an approved version,but from what I have seen,cheaper to get the GM stuff.

Yep, not going to damage it, but no reason to pay a premium for no additional benefit.

Will, it does have benefits.It lubricates much better,esp,the chain and sprockets, and has lots more anti-oxidation properties.

I am going to use this transfer at least for now, reason being I am suppose to be moving next spring so I need to get the swap done over the winter. So being that I need to do this its easier to put it together stock for now then to try to find the drive shafts and the transfer and part associated. I need to know what the seals are and where I can get them for the stock adapter that came off the transmission/transfer. I attempted to look for them but only found one. both sides requires a gasket. This was between the 4l60E and the BW4472

As far as gaskets go. Pre-formed are great, but on many occasions I make my own. I use either gasket paper or rubberized material. It’s pretty simple and no waiting.

I have the wrong adapter this is for the 4l60E and does not fit my 700R4.

The adapter shown is the wrong one for my application so its for sale 50 bucks so I can buy the correct one.

Well ebay is screwed up so the last adpater I found may be sold before i can even place an order. I hate ebay! full of crooks and losers and apparently bad tech folks running things to boot.
