Bought a 2002 AWD Safari with approximately 120,000 miles on it a few months back. Working on a modest camper conversion and lift kit. The more I read the more my head fills w/ ideas! Y'all have an incredible amount of helpful info on this site.

I didn't notice this thread and just started a new thread in the projects/builds forum (awaiting mod approval).

I have this van on hold and, if everything goes as planned, I'll pick it up within a couple weeks. 2002 AWD Safari.

New member but no van yet, I am looking at a 2000 AWD Astro with 200,000 miles a lift kit, awning, and a new motor. What would be a good price for it, he is asking $5,000 but I'm thinking more like $3,500. Any advice?
Thanks

Offer him $6K and beg him to sell it to you if free of salt / rust and depending on the Locale.

Hi everyone!

I'm the proud owner of a 2001 GMC Safari  It has a raised roof and a wheelchair lift. The odometer reads 144,000 miles but the title showed 166,000. I'm not too worried about the miles since I plan to update/upgrade everything. My plan is to turn it into our little home away from home (camper van). I'm a mom of 9 yr old twins and I'm a complete newbie that hasn't even done an oil change but I hope that with the help of this forum I'll be able to get it in shape to take short trips around the southwest :D I also plan to do as much of the work myself ( my husband thinks my "obsession" is weird  ) as much as possible to save on cost  :2: Anyway thanks for reading! 103038103036103034103032

x2 100% Nothing about this stuff is hard and between this site, google, and youtube you can find out how to do anything to virtually any vehicle.

I would take the time to grab the GM Techline eSI, it's the digital version of the factory service manual(see the links in my sig). Has every repair procedure and diagram for your van.

Trolls take away from productive work, best to ignore & go about your business.

Thank you, AstroWill! I had planned to buy the digital copy of the Haynes Manual. Is the Techline manual better in your opinion?

Great find! and WELCOME!
The Haynes books touch on the general things ( sometimes poorly in my opinion).
When it comes to specific details, I have found them lacking for many things.
Maybe they have improved over the many years since I purchased one, but don't even try anything electrical with a Haynes manual attempt at a wiring diagram.
The factory electronic files mentioned previously, will have everything you might need. ( You can print them out for reference, like for multi-page wiring diagrams...almost a necessity for those)
But for my money, I prefer watching E-bay for a set of the correct manuals. Flipping back and forth between pages works best for me.

Thanks for letting this old man join. 2003 Astro now replacing core support ( lot of fun just finding one). And 2 inch front blocks and S-10 springs in the back. One thing i learned about these vans is every 500 miles they need 500 bucks.

Welcome, looks like you have a project on your hands. The good news is that after you get everything taken care of, you won't need nearly $1 per mile to keep it running. Definitely one of the cheapest vehicles to own that I have found.
