Is this Solar setup Safe for my Astro

I'm thinking about installing a setup like this in my astro for camping. I'm worried about the alternator charging. Is a 50amp load like that too much for a stock alternator?

I just got my 50A charger, Kisae DMT-1250. I bought an upgraded alternator and will do the Big 3 wiring upgrade.
May be a little overkill, but I'd rather do it right and do it once.

Sure it would work, being safe is all in the installation. The real question is what are your needs? How much battery and what type are you going to use? You probably don't need that large of a system, but it will all depend on your situation and usage.

Once you know your electrical needs, then you can decide on how much of a battery bank you need. Once you know the size of your battery bank, then you can figure out what you will need to charge said bank.

272 amp hour 12v Lithium Iron Phosphate.

My concern is will it overwhelm my electrical system charging off of the alternator with this setup. Don't want to melt my alternator.

Hello Psychosama. What are your intentions for building out your van? Everyone's needs are different. My van has a single 100W solar panel and a C-Tek solar charging module that also accepts the alternator. Stock alternator works for me. My refrigerator runs 24/7 through the warm weather months.

I just read my post after the fact. My refrigerator is operational during the warm weather, but cycles on/off as required!!! There is also a Maxx fan, 300W inverter, and water pump for hosing items off (dishes, myself, etc.). The extra battery is always well charged.

That is a decent sized battery bank, what are you planning on running on it?
If your charger is going to be limiting the amperage then you will be fine. AD244 is a great upgrade though, and those batteries will be able to charge pretty darn quickly.
