Only 2 things in our van when we are camping...
1) The full sized comfy roomy bed:

Image
Image

2) .. and the A/C! (a MUST in Florida!)

Image

We sleep very comfortably! :D
(mind you, this van transforms back into my work van and daily driver during the week)

We pack to the ceiling (and under the bed).. but most of it sits out after we arrive:
(food, beer, coolers, chairs, canopy, tables, lighting, cooking stuff, music, etc)

Image

Oh I almost forgot... a "middle of the night porta-potty" for the wife...
(it stays in the van.. sorry no photo..lol)

A recent photo of the campsite, cook (and home-maker)...

Image

Don't forget the beer, booze... and (at your campsite) the band...

Image

Here's a different camping arrangement (outside Florida):

Image

Important extras (in the background): motorcycle, trailer, coffee pot, step

Image

Night-shot hanging by the campfire:

Image

Our version of "camping"... lol .... (as long as we do it in the van!) :D

Has anyone tried this for a bed/table combo in a van? I got the idea from a pop up camper and would like to do this in out ford e350 since its huge. A bench on each side with a table with fold down legs. When its time for bed you fold the legs and the top sits on L shaped steel or aluminum that is screwed/bolted to the side of the bench box add some rubber to make it softer. Add some padding, possibly a inflatable mattress and go to bed. Then you also have space under the benches. also leaves the middle open for what ever you wish.Since the bale has folding legs it can also be used outside if needed. Let me know what you think, Thanks Mark

Lots of van builds have setups like that Mark - more commonly they are big vans like sprinters or transits though. I don't know if many people have done it with astros, but I'm sure it's been done a bunch with e series vans.

Starting with the bed for my astro camper. I followed the REI bed build article. Doesn't slide out too easily at the moment but some sanding will probably reduce the friction. Next up are some insulating window shades.
