Today I used the astro to jump start the work van. It hasn't been started since the end of February. I did start the astro once or twice in that time though. I've not driven anything in the past month, it felt good to get in the astro again even if I only drove it 50 feet.

upgraded my Efans to higher airflow, and upgraded my Alternator to 145A. One of my fans started to be intermittent so I figured I better replace it before I have an overheat incident. and with the higher capacity fans I figured I should get a small bump in current to keep the battery charged.

I dug into that Rubber Conduit between the Driver Dr. and the Frame.

Image

Looking for why the Driver's Dr. Lock Switch won't unlock the Driver's Dr. Lock.

Broken wire in the only Part that has moved around or back & forth for almost 30 years.
Way more than the Pass. Dr.

At least they tried to protect the Wires...

Parked by our company junk vans yesterday (while we were moving some things around)...

20210408_183510a.jpg

Not much else to report... I drive my 2000 daily and it hasn't needed anything for some time now.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Been doing DJ gigs every weekend with my 92 cargo shorty.
It's also mostly just turn-key and go.

Here's how my 92 essentially sits, parked in the garage, always loaded and ready for the next gig.
Lots of speakers big and standard (most not visible), monitors, high-powered amp-rack (buried and not visible), mic and rack stands, tripods, canopies, equipment racks, fan, parking cones, signs, cables cords and accys, computer rack, etc.. etc. Once in a blue-moon when it's unloaded for some reason, I'll go a little crazy with the V8... :D

Here's my view at one of my regular local restaurant gigs with my smaller portable system..
(not working from side of van like usual at most car shows)
About 80 cars or so on a typical cruise night

Hope you didn't mind a couple of my car show pics.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

PS: Also on my 92... been doing some Holley carburetor performance tweaking.
It's been relaxing therapy (when I got some free time)
I'll post a little more about this in my next post

I just used the front hitch to move the camper back a little further in the yard. It was rainy and muddy when we parked it behind the gate, even my neighbor's 4x4 was having difficulty in the mud at the time. The yard was finally dry enough I could move it back some as it sat right next to the AC unit, blocking the path past it. Now I can walk by, and even have room to get the lawn mower out. That was an accomplishment, it zapped what little energy I had for a while. Maybe later I can work in the yard a bit more, but I'm done for now.

I was running a pair of these. https://tinyurl.com/2d9vcykp

Upgraded to these. https://tinyurl.com/2yhku953

I have a 40A relay and 12ga wire direct to the primary power fuse box to drive the two so I didn't have to change anything else to get them running.

The are mounted on an Alloyworks Aluminum Shroud and coupled to a 3 row 1" thick all aluminum radiator.

And because of the fan load upgrade (no other stuff really and more wanted it to charge better at lower RPMs same as Mike)

I went with this alternator. https://tinyurl.com/2yhku953

Here's the link to Mike's upgrade thread.

https://www.astrosafari.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=143944

It was a drop in and while I can probably consider a next size belt, I was able to get the stock belt back in place easily.

I did purchase the next size belt part number ACDelco 6K960
and a new tension pulley ACDelco 38103 in anticipation of needing to replace that soon. Mine looks like it's been in there a while and I've had two blow up on me mid drive on a long trip. (gardnerville driving from SF to Mammoth Mountain ski resort). Next warm day I'll swap that out.

Now at Idle, I'm getting a consistent 13.8-14.2v rather than the drop to 12.6 on occasion while idling with fans running.

Oh yeah and after I pulled the old fans off, I decided to do a little bit of "detective work" and found cold solder joints were the wires attach to the fan. On both fans. Good possibility the second one would fail shortly.

Re: What have you done to/with your van today?

Well, the wife's van died a few weeks ago, haven't had time to see what's really wrong, so it's been sitting. So that bumped the Astro from my daily driver to the family daily driver, which includes family trips. One of the day trips included a stop by the lake (Lake Michigan). It had been raining and the fog was rolling in, and I liked the side view with the reflection in the puddle.

IMG_20210408_152224-640x480.jpg

While driving there, the passenger side mirror was shaking badly, and I figured the mirror had been hit while I was parked. My wife rolled the window down and grabbed the glass and pulled it free. Cleaned it up, added tape, and stuck it back on. Forgot to take a finished pic, but hey, we've all seen a mirror all together, haven't we?

And the MPGs have been pretty good for it, right around 16mpg for a few tanks.
