98 Safari Starter wiring

'98 Safari V6 AWD. had the starter removed by someone. Sat for 4 months and while idle a rodent chewed wiring harness in the area of battery. I've put in a new starter and repaired the wiring harness (matched up the colors etc.)

The starter spins but seems like the electrics are not getting power, coil, ignition - somewhere. Just wonder if I wired the starter wrong. Anyone have a picture of a wired starter - or maybe can give a novice a description of what goes where.

Could you be more specific on what you mean by "the starter spins". Does it turn the motor over when it spins? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply - the starter turns the motor just fine - sounds like it wants to start by is not getting fire. I can smell gas.

When something like this happens U2, the basics need to be applied (Fuel-Air-Spark) to find the area that is causing this no start condition. I would pull the dog house off and check for spark at the distributor first (coil side then spark plug side).

Thanks again, My concern is that I wired the starter wrong, that is why I was asking for help with the wires and maybe a picture if someone had one. Anyone? Thanks in advance

Matrixx is correct.
Chances are it would try to fire up while the engine was cranking but die after you let off the key. You can check for spark pretty easy, then maybe ether pull a plug to see if its wet it fuel, or try spraying some fuel into the intake being careful not to spill it on the engine or getting to much in the intake. It should not take much fuel to at least see if it a fuel problem. I would check the spark first though (Not as messy).

I have a 98 AWD but it does not have the engine or sub-frame installed ATM.
