Grab Handle on passenger side dash

My handle has cracked and broke on my 2000 Safari. Dealer wants around 75 bucks. Not sure how it is attached unless it is just pushed on. Anybody know any cheaper way to fix and install it?

have you checked the local junkyard?

The one on the pillar? You just go to a junkyard and get the whole replacement pillar.

The handle on the door? That is a couple of hex screws to pull out, or it was on mine anyway.

and thats even a junk yard find too and with any luck you'll find the same color!

Grab Handle on passenger side dash, near passenger side airbag.
Not many junkyards around here. The 800 number junkyards can be a BIG ripoff, since I get a discount from GM.
Is there any other sites like this one I should look at? Its been a while since I was at this site cause it was down for a while. Is this site as busy as the old site?

Did you ever find how it attaches? Mine looks almost impossible to get off. But if they got it on, you should be able to undo it .

My handle is broken as well and I got a price of around $75 for a new on as well. These handles bolt on from the inside of the dash and to do it you have to remove the passenger side airbag. For the dealer to do it they wanted to charge an hour and a half labour on top of the $75 for the part. My question is, how hard is it to remove the airbag on the passenger side. It looks like it would be a simple 2 minute job to install the handle once the airbag it out.

I bought some glue from home depot. I think it's pretty new stuff. They sell 3 different versions, 1, 2, & 3. The number 1 is good for plastic and rubber to plastic and rubber. You can't even see the crack, and it's held for over a year. I cant imagine how or why it broke though.

Take off center instrument cluster, like when doing tuneup(just pull it back, no need to disconnect wiring). Take off knee bolster. Take off AC vents, you can get to handle nuts, but such tight clearance, you can only finger tighten when installing. Probably not a bad idea, cause if you overtighten you will pull stud out of pricey handle. I think they overtightened these nuts at factory, causing this problem. You do NOT have to remove Airbag this way.
