Fixed my driver door handle hinge

Fixed my driver door handle hinge

Postby zerotool [OP] » January 23rd 2015, 5:09am

My driver door handle has been replaced at least twice. Now the after market handle would not open due to the top seemed loose. (i did not need to remove the door panel) So i cut a hole (forum advised) to reach the top nut. Tho when i looked thru the hole i could see that a pin for the hinge had worked it's way out of a hole and sticking up so that the top of the handle was loose , shifted when pulled on and would not pull far enough to click open the door. So i do not need a new handle. i just need to line up the pin and hole and drive it back into the hole so that it will hinge together and move correctly. Don't force it, it breaks, i was told (dealer's OEM handle is $80. now). Cut that hole. I did it with a cordless drill. Small bit , then larger bit for a circle c. 1" hole in the right place (per vids & pix). then wire cutters to cut the disc out. then rasp to smooth out the hole. I just tape over the hole to stop dust. Work truck.
