Better vacuum hose?

I have repaired to vacuum line for the A/C system multiple times. The small hard plastic vacuum hose get brittle and breaks. I have been using the hose I can find at auto parts stores that comes in a little package. I haven't seen any similar hose in the stores being sold by the foot. Any suggestions for a better product that will last longer?

You're referring to that little POS skinny tube that breaks in the least accessible places?

I slid a piece of polyethylene or vinyl tubing (I don't remember which) over mine and it hasn't broken in well over a year. Before that, it broke on top of the intake twice in a year- I cut the end off and reinserted it in the rubber both times and the last time, I secured it better, so it can't sag when it gets hot.

Someone should find the person who spec'd that crap and force them to repair a bunch of these, so they know how much of a PITA it is.

But I'm not bitter...... :screaming:

Seriously- I have to wonder how they justified a lot of the choices for the parts used in a lot of vehicles. "This will work for a while" doesn't cut it.

Did the rubber hose you buy in the store fail?
Mine has held up fine.. (but it probably won't last forever).
The plastic line is ridiculous.
