I ruined my CV axel input shaft

My cv input shaft was ruined when trying to dislodge from old CV. I"m talking about the piece that slides into the differential, the spline. Am I completely boned and stuck to digging through a junk yard? Advice needed. Thanks in advance.

I guess it depends how bad you wrecked it, but yes they are no longer available. So if you really need one finding one at a wreckers or someone parting out a van is about your only option.

I'm just guessing, but did the cir clip get somewhat dislodged and chew up the splines? If it's not too bad you can file any burrs off and still use it. Of course the cir clip will need to be repaired or replaced.

Or maybe you did something else to it?

The splined piece snaps in same way on both ends.
They are a little challenging to pull apart, but with a little leverage they come right out.
Same going back in.. the c-clip is a bear.

Depending on the damage, it may still be usable.
Post a photo.

FYI: You MUST "FULLY SEAT" the CV-axle into the differential, or it will slide in/out and chew up everything.
It's quite a job "lining up" the axle so you can whack it extra hard and straight in.
I use bungies to support axle while whacking it in.
It MUST be seated fully.

Good luck

(this is one of my old axles.. turns out it wasn't bad, but I replaced it anyway)
