Hey Astro/Safari-errrrrrs!
So I just picked up my Safari today, super stoked! She's a '99 AWD Passenger with only 144k on the engine, was a fleet vehicle in the SF Bay Area, so only one owner, no salt, and a crazy level of regular maintenance. Here she is:
My purpose with this vehicle is to use it as a launch/chase/retrieve vehicle for me and my paragliding and hang gliding buddies. There are lots of launches that we regularly fly from out here in the west that truly need extra clearance, a 4X4 drivetrain and tires that are up to the task. I'm doing the 4" lift with Journeys and also the 4X4 conversion with the NP233C transfer case. I'm going to put bigger tires - was thinking 29" because that's the max I can do according to Journey's with a 4" lift before getting creative with cutting the wheel wells, and I'm honestly doubtful that I'd even need anything bigger. The roads are usually Forest/BLM roads and a mix of dirt, gravel and loam. So, the tires need to be up to the task, BUT, I don't want a tire that's so off road specific that it's annoying on the highway. We might drive 200 or 300 miles in a day doing retrieve, but really the number of miles where the off road capability is needed is in the single digits or thereabouts - almost all of those miles are highway miles. So it needs to be COMPETENT at dirt/gravel/loam but still pretty highway friendly. Not looking for sizing at this point - really just thoughts on make/model.
Thanks!
