Overhead Console Driver Info Center Install Problem

I have a 2000 GMC Safari. It has an overhead console but does not have a driver information center. Instead it has a plastic filler plate. I purchased a D.I.C. and console unit but it did not have the entire wiring harness to connect to the blue plug in the head liner at the rear as the wires attached to the D.I.C. I purchased had been cut off shortly past the connector plug. I searched the automotive wreckers and found 1 van that had the harness but the plug was missing from the wires at the end that plugs into the D.I.C. and the wires are different colors than the plug that is cut off. The blue female plug on the wiring harness is labelled A, B, C, D on one side and E, F, G, H on the other and has 6 wires connected. Any idea how these wires line up into the male plug that connects into the D.I.C. ? Also I will assume that the ambient temperature sensor and accompanying wiring harness are not on my vans radiator but I have not checked to be sure. Any ideas where these would plug into?

I don't know anything about the overhead console because my van is a stripped down cargo, but it's very likely you have the harness in place for the ambient temp sensor. My van has the harness plug hanging there right next to the horns in front of the radiator.

Okay Community,

I found another wiring harness, and an ambient temperature sensor at the wreckers. The wiring harness was from a different year and has a different plug that attaches to the Driver Information Center (DIC) on the overhead console of my 2000 GMC Safari. I was able to use it to match the color scheme for the old wiring harness and plug (or at least I hope it is the correct order). I connected the Ambient temperature sensor to the existing plug in the wiring harness in front of the radiator and connected the wiring harness to the overhead console and DIC and put everything back together again. The DIC reads out the outside air temperature just fine, but the compass only shows NE or sometimes N. It will not show any other directions. I have tried driving the van in slow circles in both directions to orient the compass with no luck so far.

I can turn the DIC on and off, I can switch from imperial to metric, it turns on and off with the key, stays on after you shut off the ignition until you open the door - everything you would expect it to do - except for the compass.

Does this sound like an incorrect wiring job, a faulty DIC, or is there a way to reset it?
