Power Window Regulator Combo Question

Hi. My front passenger window rolls down lickety-split, but recently rolls up super-duper slow. I’ve already tried lubricating the sides, but it didn’t make a dent. I’m all but positive it’s gonna go from slow to no-go soon enough, and wanna be proactive about it. Not sure if there’s any option left other than to….replace….the motor…or regulator? Being as I don’t know which is at fault, I figure I’d get the combo to play both sides, and it's cheaper than the two units sold separately and I'd rather take the door off just this once. But I don’t see many people talking about such a dual-device, let alone a step-by-step instructional regarding how to replace the old motor and regulator with the combo. One question is: does the motor part of it attach to the same place as the old motor? Will it all become obvious, like a jigsaw puzzle, when I'm eyeballing it? I guess my most basic, burning question is: can someone with little-to-no experience in this particular area be able to do the switcharoo? I know that meddling inside the little metal caves behind the door can even try the patience of a seasoned mechanic. But it’s absurdly expensive to have an auto shop do it compared to DIY...

EDIT: This product here is what I'm calling "the combo":

Please pardon any delay in response. Am off-grid and internet's sparse. Thanks.

Yeah, can't say for sure, but sheer old age of the motor might likely be the cause. In any case, I'd like to replace the regulator too, as long as I'm taking off the door.

Wow, indeed that was a good comprehensive write up. Thanks for all of that, which filled in some gaps in my overall understanding.

I had messaged the seller of that combo rig on Amazon, asking if the motor part of the combo sat in the same place as the motor-only unit. They said..."no, it doesn't". So I'm still trying to understand exactly how/where this combo unit is connected. I was hoping it was just your standard-issue motor and regulator...that just happen to be connected. But I guess it's not that simple, and so I still don't understand where the motor part is supposed to be installed. Do you remember where the motor part got hitched to the door, realityguy?

Hi. It's me now who's sorry for the late response - haven't had any internet. And I might be sorry about one other thing too: In my original post, I had written "I figure I’d get the combo to play both sides", and I had inserted this hyperlink, as I just did now again. But I just glanced at my original post, and there's no hyperlink! And it was that link - to the amazon product page - that I was thinking carried a lot of weight/info of what my query was really about - which is that specific product or design, which I have been calling "the combo". But meanwhile maybe you and maybe everyone else didn't know what I was exactly talking about. I wanted any intel as to how to install it, or if it was difficult or notably any different - if the motor part fit differently, in a different location - than the isolated motor and isolated regulator. That was the whole point of my post. And so I'm really unsure still if you have been talking about this "combo". From the photos, I'm thinking maybe not? If not - jeez, I'm so sorry to confuse you and waste your time!

"They are not two different types of setups". This is what I'm really trying to determine - I'd they are fundamentally set up differently. Because, as mentioned, I'd messaged that combo rig seller on Amazon, asking "does the motor part of the combo sit in the same place as the motor-only unit?". They replied, "no, it doesn't". They actually contacted their tech dept to get me that answer. Still, something could've be lost in translation. But this is why I'm trying to find someone who has actually installed one of these combo units, or has a great comprehensive grasp on the general field of Astro window motors and regulators installation.

“The first picture is not an astro regulator and motor.,.see the last one! The video has nothing to do with an Astro.”

I grant you they might be using stock photos. The video is simply a general ad for their combo units for different vehicles, and says as much in it. Apparently these kinds of units are what the company specializes in. I take stock and comfort in the review rating average, which is good. And while I try to buy locally and am adverse to contributing to the Bezos monopoly, Amazon works works good in certain situations, especially if I might need to return it no questions asked.

“If it doesn't mount the same way and place..how do you calculate where it goes?”
That’s a damn good question, pretty much what I’ve been asking. “I would assume the tech is wrong and they mount in the same holes you just drilled out.” I’m thinking you’re right - where the heck else would it go?

“Are your window felts okay?” They felt okay to me - at least if you mean what I can access along the accessible sides.

“But ya, buy the motor, buy the regular, bolt the two together and you have you "combo unit”.
But half the inspiration for this combo unit here is to save money, and the combo’s cheaper.

“Check out this thread for a year close to yours.” Thanks for that.

“Either way..if you buy that set..let us..and in the future,others.. know how it worked out. It could be a good deal/set at a cheap price.”
Ya, for sure will report my findings!

Thanks for your tips, reality guy, regards tool for the connectors. I’ve actually taken this door off several times, as have apparently previous owners. By now, many things are stripped or half-missing (like, some connectors), but enough of the right screws attach to keep the door connected all-told, but I don’t feel the need to have it all prim and proper.

“I’m just letting you know it's the same parts". Yeah. This makes most sense all along now with hindsight from both of you guys’ inputs on this post. Last month I was scratching my head looking at the combo as maybe a whole different kind of animal. But it’s the same animal(s), it seems, only with an extra bone connecting the different body parts (not a perfect analogy I know).

Due to my plans the next few weeks or months, It’ll be hard to hunker down with this unless necessity dictates it so. The window rolls down fast, and rolls up wicked slow, but it’s not had this same behavior for several months, and hasn’t changed or died. I feel a bit more confident that, should it conk out, I’ll order the combo and do my best to install it myself. Am gonna be without internet the next 8 days, but will respond to any messages when I return to cyberland.
